Repurpose Your Mom’s Juliet Cap Wedding Veil

Restyling your mom’s vintage Juliet Cap into bridal accessories for your wedding day is a beautiful option.

Vintage Juliet Cap headpiece styles are among the most popular requests I receive for repurposing and restyling. My brides wish to use their mom’s wedding veil but void the rigid horsehair frame and depth of glued heavy lace. This month’s blog highlights the bridal accessory journey of three brides who fashioned their mom’s 1982 Juliet cap “their way.”

I will always credit my life as a bridal accessory designer as a gift. The brides that come to me welcome me into their lives to share in the story of their wedding day. What I create will surely be the only one of its kind in the world.

Honoring Mom on My Wedding Day

My mom and I talked about the wedding a lot once she was diagnosed with cancer. She told me that if I wanted, I could cut up her dress and use any part of it whenever I decided to get married. After she passed, I didn’t have it in me to cut up her dress. So, I decided to wear her veil instead in honor of her.

In 1982, Emily’s mom wore a classic lace Juliet-style headpiece with a two-tier veil.

Emily tried on her mom’s vintage headpiece and veil, hoping to wear it on her wedding day.

At Headpiece.com, stories of love, history, heartbreak, and family envelope the final bridal accessory design.

I restyled the lace from her mom’s Juliet Cap into individual bridal accessories that Emily could style however she chose on her wedding day. Her mom’s pouffy two-tier veil became a beautiful single-tier cascading veil.

Emily’s dad, Mark, was with her every step of the way through the design process.

It was special to have my mom’s veil with me. It was like she was walking me down the aisle with my dad.
I trusted you with something so special to me because I knew you cared about every piece with your whole heart.

You Can Wear My Veil

My mom stopped by my house one day, almost jokingly tossed her veil at me, and said something like, “Here you go. Do with this what you want. You can wear it!” When she left, I started thinking how special it would be to create something from it. After that, I went down a rabbit hole online to see what could be done with it and found Marie!’

Becky’s vision was to restyle her mom’s wedding veil only. But then I suggested repurposing her mom’s headpiece into beautiful, delicate hairpins that could be worn again beyond her wedding day.

I LOVED both my veil and hairpins. My mom was just tickled pink that I even wanted to repurpose her veil.
Working from coast to coast (literally CA to NJ), Marie made the process easy for me and was so personable to work with. I am still so happy I found her! We also bonded over her daughter’s wedding in Newport Beach, which is where I work. A small world indeed!

Will You Wear My Veil

My mom has been talking about using her veil since my brother got married in 2013. After I got engaged, she asked if I wanted to use her veil. I asked her for pictures to see if it would fit my vision for my wedding day. However, it was definitely not my style, and I couldn’t picture how it would work.

Erica told me she was going to have a church ceremony followed by a beach ceremony and reception. She wore a simple dress for the church and a gown for the beach.

I restyled her mom’s Juliet Cap into an ethereal-style headband for the church.

A set of hairpins created with the lace from her mother’s Juliet Cap were versatile for a beautiful wedding hairstyle.

Restyling a vintage two-tier lettuce edge veil into a contemporary single longer tier always amazes my brides.

I knew I was going to have two ceremonies, so I wanted a few different options, but honestly, I had no idea what could be done with the headpiece. I knew I wanted to use as much of it as possible but couldn’t visualize it.
— Erica
I really relied on Marie’s expertise, blogs, and Instagram account to figure out what I wanted. She was great guiding me in the right direction.
I was so happy with the work that Marie did. She exceeded my expectations. I especially couldn’t believe that she could make the veil as long as it was. I surprised my mom and didn’t show her anything until the day of the wedding. She was so happy and emotional. She is excited to have something that we can keep passing down to future generations. So am I.

See you next month on the Fourteenth
